Reading Nook

The weather is really gross today- heavy winds, heavy rain, and dark skies at three in the afternoon. On days like this, I love staying inside with a good book and a hot drink. Here are some reading nooks that are to die for. People, if you have an awkward/small space and you don't know what to do with it.....please PLEASE make it into an awesome reading nook. Then invite me over.

Christmas is in the House

Life has certainly picked up here with the holiday season, as I'm sure it has with you. This year, I'm trying to set aside time to be more crafty with our Christmas decorating. I like the idea of making one thing for our home each Christmas, and I chose making ornaments and snow globes this year. I love Christmas time. (Ps. I apologize in advance for my poor quality iphone pics.)

Framing

We all know about the RIBBA frames from Ikea, right? If you haven't- they are simple modern frames at an affordable price. They are quite possibly my favorite thing to buy at Ikea. So that said, instead of paying for expensive custom framing I always buy Ikea frames. This is not news, I know. What I wanted to talk about today though, is what to do when you have a piece of art whose size requires a custom frame. This happened to us recently when we brought back an art piece from Italy. It had odd dimensions, and even with coupons getting it custom framed was going to be very expensive. So instead, I bought my RIBBA frame (way larger than the actual art piece) and got it custom matted for $30 vs the $250 something dollars to get it custom framed. Red was happy, I was happy.

Catching Up

As you may have noticed, I took a little unannounced leave of absence the past few days. I'm still here! I just took a small break. Life was getting crazy between work, holiday things, a military ball, and a trip home for a friend's wedding, so I just decided to not make myself crazy by trying to do everything. Today, I'm leaving you with inspiration from this beautiful home. Go here to see more.

House Tour

Featured in the latest House Beautiful, this stunning home was designed by the talented Pamela Shamshiri. It's unexpected and fresh. No surprise here, but I love the layers of mid century and global pieces. In each of these rooms, there's so much to take in......don't miss a detail!

Dress your walls

Every now and then, I come across some wallpaper that makes me stop in my tracks and try to figure out a way to make it work in my transient lifestyle. Someday. Until then, here are my current wallpaper obsessions:

Just Because

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends! I'm going to leave you with this image......because it's Friday and because I would probably feel this way too if someone handed me off to Lady Gaga.

Happy Thanksgiving

I always have such high hopes of things I want to get done before the holidays. Originally, I had hoped to make a sign for Thanksgiving like the one below. It didn't happen.....maybe next year?
~
My cousin made this awesome Thanksgiving tree (with everyone writing what they are thankful for).......don't you love it?
~
This is what I settled on (thank you pinterest).......next year I will be more crafty, but this year our rolls will each have a slip of paper with something we are grateful for.

A short film

This weekend I was doing some online Christmas shopping and I came across this beautiful Selby Film for Zara featuring Lucy Chadwick. If you haven't seen it already, it's on Zara's homepage here. Both of her homes featured in the film are simple & chic. Though it's not my personal style (& I'm pretty sure I could never pull it off even if I tried), I love Lucy's modern Katherine Hepburn look.

Take me to Morocco

You guys know by now my passion for travel. In my free time I always find myself researching & dreaming about new destinations. During one of those moments, I stumbled upon this incredible bed & breakfast in Marrakech, Morocco. Not only is it stunningly beautiful, but it's run by an American couple living in Morocco........who know the ins and outs of the Marrakech market (just tell me where to get my Moroccan wedding blanket?!). Normally this wouldn't be a preference, but I feel it could be helpful not having a language barrier (& put Red at ease) in a destination like Morocco. That said, please check out Peacock Pavilions here and meanwhile enjoy the pictures below.

Does this last picture look familiar? It's the same stencil I used on my tablecloth, I could also swear it's the same picture I fell in love with on Royal Design Studio.

Congratulations and Thanksgiving Preparations

Congratulations to L2theBoach on winning last weeks stencil giveaway!
~

Yesterday I began planning our Thanksgiving Day menu, and it got me so excited about the season. One thing I'm very aware of now since Red's deployment is how difficult the holidays can be for people. I'm grateful I had a couple close friends that reminded me I still had a lot to be grateful for. I encourage you guys to write a list of the blessings in your life, big and small....... there really is always something to be grateful for.
